As a Professional Interior Designer , you'll be assigned the task of decorating and furnishing the interiors of different buildings which may be commercial, industrial or even residential. You can either work independently or join one of the many Interior Design firms - the choice is yours. You will be working on various properties, offering your  aesthetic insight and advice to a number of people/businesses.

In order to join this profession, you have to have a knack for arts, a keen eye for design and a spatial awareness of a reasonable level. In addition to that you have to be a very creative and self-motivated person with a sound knowledge of Basic Financial/project management.

Before you can kick start your career as an Interior Designer, you need to obtain a Bachelor's Degree in Interior Design & Decoration from a well-recognized college. Note that your degree would only be valid if your college's Interior Design Program has been accredited by the The British Interior Design Association (BIDA)

Even though Interior Design is a relatively young industry, it's starting to grow at an exponential rate so there will be lots of opportunities available to you to prove your worth. After having completed your training, you can specialize in one particular area such as  office design, retail and exhibition design, health-care and education facilities, sustainable design, interior architecture and design management.Or alternatively, you can keep your options open and work freelance as an independent Design Consultant or Stylist.

Alternatively, you could start-off by working for a small design firm and then after having acquired enough skills and knowledge you can later set up your own Interior Design Business.

Once you have started your career as in Interior Designer, you will have an option of joining various accredited trade bodies such as The Chartered Society of Designers (CSD) or the British Institute of Interior Design (BIID).

Like in every other profession, you'll have to constantly up-grade your skills and knowledge stay current with the industry trends.
